That's interesting - Hiscox told me they don't cover writers, after I called for more info after filling out their online quote form on which I had selected marketing, since I plan to do some marketing writing as well as tech writing, and tech writing wasn't one of the drop-down choices.
I wonder if their rep was thinking I was for example a novelist, and that's the type of writer they don't cover, even though I specifically said technical writer.

Subject: Re: Questions about professional liability (errors & omissions) insurance for independent consultants
I have this insurance, through Hiscox. The price is somewhat based on one's gross earnings. (Well, if you're an incorporated company. Not sure how it works for 1099s workers or workers who are W2 through a regular full-time employment situation.)
They've been easy to deal with, and the automatic billing is totally as expected. And they do offer it for tech writers, which is somewhat of a rarity I believe.
I've not ever had to file a claim. I got it only because one client a number of years ago insisted. And I was required to keep it for two years after I left that client. I've continued to carry it 'cause I'm very conservative about insurance, and because I'm looking at only 5 more years, so not such an enormous expense.
