In the thread, Re: Ig Nobel documentation, I lamented having to finally
give up on the long out-of-production Ventura Publisher. I upgraded many
times, so with each new PC or OS, I'd have to go through a long install
and update routine. The software lost its help system under Windows 7,
and it became unusable under Windows 10.
When I remarked on my plight, Jay Maechtlen casually mentioned that if
he needed to run software like this, he'd just install it under a
virtual machine. No one was there to see the big smack I gave to my
forehead.
I went through the process of creating a virtual machine (much easier
said than done the first time around!) and installed my software within
it. I spent much of my free time over a three day period to get it done.
I am now a happy camper who knows a bunch more than he did last month.
Many thanks, Jay, for reuniting me with an old friend.
