Hello All,

I think, as so often, it depends: :)
* What is the overall reach of those articles?
* In effect it's similar to a website like medium.com for example,
where you can - but do not have to - provide information and spread
your expertise.
* It could be handy to prove your skills and knowledge to a larger
audience.
* Isn't this techwhrl-list based on similar ideas...?
* I also was asked a while ago, two or three times. At the moment I do
not feel like exploring that part of LinkedIn: It would take my time
and focus, to research the details of the effect this is having (how
many people does it reach, where can it be found, by whom and
how...etc.)?
* So I didn't contribute either so far. I have already published
articles on the field in my LinkedIn profile. I write in other
'realms', here - for one.
* For me that's enough of "Show(ing) (my) your Work" as Austin Kleon in
his fine book so aptly called it. :)

So, check your priorities, your needs - and your willingness to
contribute and be seen somewhere else as a professional perhaps - would
be my advice.
:)
Best wishes
Nina

I received a similar request from LinkedIn.
The scope was to critique an article. No mention of it being generated
by AI.
I looked over the article and then gave them my opinion.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll be on my guard.
Be seeing you,

I got a messaged from LinkedIn recently asking me to contribute to what
they're calling "collaborative articles". The message indicated I was
selected to be part of an "exciting" new way to share what I know.
The gist of the program:
"We're unlocking community knowledge in an all new way. It starts with
an
article on a professional topic or skill, written with the help of AI
-- but
it's not complete without insights and advice from people with
real-life
experiences. We invited experts to contribute."
"Collaborative articles are knowledge topics published by LinkedIn with
insights and perspectives added by the LinkedIn community. These
articles
begin as AI-powered conversation starters, developed with our editorial
team, but they aren't complete without insights from our members. A
select
group of experts have been invited to contribute their own ideas,
examples
and experiences within the articles."
Potential benefits they list include "helping others learn" and the
fact
that "contributors will also have the potential to earn a new Community
Top
Voices badge when their contributions reach top contributor status,
showing
the value of your insightful expertise".
My guess is that their editors are creating a prompt to AI-generate an
article that people contribute to (and, I suspect, fact check it as
they
go) to make it more useful.
I'm guessing they're doing this in many areas/disciplines, but the
cynic in
me feels, in the tech writing area in particular, this is like asking
us to
work for free....?
I'm wondering if others have gotten this type of invitation, what you
thought of it, whether you chose to contribute, and if so what that was
like.
