> I am a User Servics Consultant here at Southeastern Louisiana
>University, Hammond. In addition to training, help desk support, etc. I am
>also responsible for creating hand-outs, etc. A couple of things we have found
>useful:
> 1) Creating public-access directories (on our VAX/VMS) where copies of
>these handouts are maintained.
> 2) Creating a local-newsgroup and posting the handouts there.
U of MN maintains several localized newsgroups (which are also duplicated
to e-mail) for various platforms or specializations within the campus.
There is constant, active discussion on most of these groups and it helps
to build the community of techies.
As for keeping documentation on-line, there's no coordinated method of
doing that here yet. Things are beginning to coalesce around the Gopher
protocol, though formatting in ASCII slows that endeavor.
BTW, I'm not personally involved in computing support. Rather, I'm just
reporting what I see from my own use of the systems here.
