Saul,

Re: What? No Quality?

No replies yet?

Amazing but true, I haven't received any replies to Don
Steirer's and my invitation for "real life" examples of
tech communication that worked or failed, either.
Not a one. I bet there's a common denominator here.

(Well, I did get a note from Eric asking if I was going to
summarize the replies to the list. Eric, at this rate it'll
be the shortest summary in history!)

As for quality metrics, have a look at the list archives
for July. There were a few threads starting with "doc/quality
metrics" and fanning out to "increasing customer contact"
and "comment(s) sheets," etc. It was a colourful discussion
overall. Since you're a believer in trying to quantify doc
quality, brace yourself. Some of the letters tore the
measurement idea apart limb from limb.

There's no formal TC quality measuring program here beyond
the standards expected of a tech writer. I.e., the company
pays me, pays for my STC membership, lets me beam in and out
across the Internet, and expects that I'll keep somewhat
abreast of the best.

Cheers,

Ken
