Subject:Bit by my own department's work. From:Jim Grey <jwg -at- ACD4 -dot- ACD -dot- COM> Date:Thu, 7 Apr 1994 17:01:08 -0500
Well, folx, it has finally happened.
I'm working a two-week tour of duty in my company's telephone support center,
the ACD Help Desk. It's been a very quiet week, with very few calls coming
in, so I've been able to keep up with my own work.
Today (Thursday) I finally got a call. A customer needed to change a
parameter in one of our Platforms. Any user can modify some parameters at
any time, while others are to be updated only under the supervision of the
ACD Help Desk. Those parameters are protected by password.
Do you see what's coming?
The customer wanted to update one of the password-protected parameters,
and needed me to tell him the password so he could do it. I don't know to
derive it. I looked around to see who I could yell at for help, but everyone
else was under their headsets on a call. So I opened the manual. The manual
we wrote.
It reads: "The parameter password for the supplier-only parameters is
changing constantly. To obtain the appropriate password, call the ACD Help
Desk."
Fortunately, the customer found the situation amusing.
Lesson learned: When you refer the reader to the Help Desk, make ferdamsure
that the Help Desk is fully equipped with the information they need.
Peace,
jim grey
