By convention, typeset documents, which use proportional fonts, use only one
space between sentences whereas typewritten material, which uses a monospaced
font, uses two spaces. I don't know why. If you're using a proportional font
and you want your documents to look more like professionally typeset documents
(i.e., in the "old days" set by a printer), use only one space between
sentences.
