Word does something similar. I just tried it for the first time
yesterday in Word 6, though Word 2 also has a comparison feature.
You compare two files, and Word 6 underlines the new/changed parts
adds strikethrough formatting to deleted parts, and adds change
bars, by default. Of course you can customize how additions, deletions,
and revisions are formatted. In Word 6, it's the Revisions . . . option
in the Tools menu. In Word 2, it's the Compare Versions . . . option
in the Tools menu.

I didn't try to save the redlined document, though I think you can
because you can have multiple reviewers (it gives a different color
to the edits of up to 8 reviewers). I did print it and that worked
fine. It was nice to be able to forget about formatting the changes
and just work on the document!
