EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE...I know lots of folks with degrees in x
who are now doing y extremely well. One fellow with a BA in English, now
designing helicopter guidance systems, for example. My own degree was
somewhere in English/Film Communications, but I've written over 1,000
magazine articles, six books, scads of manuals and reports, etc. I can
resent emphasis given to a few years schooling over a dozen years of
hardcore practice. Continuous study has a place, as do degrees. But
schooling in itself isn't even a qualification in a craft such as writing or
"tech writing".
