Why don't you keep your format as is, but leave the backs of
the pages lined for notes. That way the student can make
notes for the current page (right side) on the back of the
previous page (left side). Plenty of space, but twice the
pages -- something has to give.
BTW, I like your format. It would be a shame to muck it up!
