Regarding Karen's lengthy installation procedure:
Maybe you could push this back to your engineering folks and ask if they can
simplify the procedure by writing scripts to take care of some of the tedium.
I've worked in places where scripts do things like create directories, copy
files from the installation medium, delete files, etc. If you provide these,
the users will marvel at how easy it is to install your product. Instead,
imagine how much they'll look forward to tackling the install procedure.
Also, it should cut down considerably on support calls.
Good luck
