Peggy--

A freelancing friend of mine finds clients by pounding the pavement. The
good part of this is that after she has clients, she keeps them, thereby
eliminating the need to keep going door to door.

The "one good technical writing style manual" is a myth. Learn as much as
you can about the various styles--the _Chicago Manual of Style_ and _AP
Style Guide_ (approximated titles) are always a good place to start. My
favorite writing guru? William Zinsswer and his _On Writing Well_ book. I
apply his three rules of writing--simplify, simplify, simplify--to both my
tech writing and fiction work.

Microsoft Word and Word Perfect seem to have cornered the word processing
market.

1.) Howto find clients.
2.) Is there a good technical writing style manual?
3.) What word-processing, and other, software packages do technical
writers find valuable?

Thanks for your help.
