Ellen Adams asked about "invoke" vs. "use."

"Invoke" sounds somewhat more mysterious, as in a wizard invoking a spell.
"Use" sounds more like what us common folks do.

Also, I can't help but parahprase Mark Twain, commenting on being paid
by the word: Why use six letters when three will do perfectly well?
