Darcey,
I've saved many documents from Word as just plain ASCII text. I choose
the Save As option and when the dialog box appears, at the very bottom of
the dialog box is a Save File as Type drop-down list. From here I just
choose the Text Only option. I can then open the file in Notepad or
PFE or whatever your favorite text editor is. I never have any problems
or funky symbols - just plain ASCII text.
Oh, I am using Word 6.0a. It shouldn't make a difference under Word 2.0,
though, because I used to do the same thing with that version.
