Subject:Invoke or Use From:Gwen Barnes <gwen -dot- barnes -at- MUSTANG -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 14 Nov 1994 15:48:06 GMT
-> I'm a software documentation specialist. In my place of work, we have
-> a little debate over the terms "invoke" and "use." One of my esteemed
"Invoke" means to summon spirits or elementals during a magickal ritual.
Now, *I* am willing to try almost anything to get a program to work, but
I'll be darned if I'll tell users they have to stand in a nine-foot
circle, light candles and perform an exorcism -- that's the programmer's
job.
I prefer the simplicity and clarity of the word "use", and I invoke it
wherever possible.
Cheers, @DISCLAIMER@
