Have your students write a set of instructions on how to explain to a
person how to tie a pair of shoes. It is to be assumed that this person
has never even seen a pair of lace-ups, so the instructions have to begin
with the lacing of the shoes. All finger movements must be clearly
explained. A student in the class reads the instructions word-for-word,
and another student follows these steps exactly. I have found this exercise
to be very valuable in instructing students to write set of instructions.
