Subject:Indexing with Doc-To-Help From:Lori Lathrop <76620 -dot- 456 -at- COMPUSERVE -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 28 Nov 1994 19:00:24 EST
In response to David Johns (INTERNET:14615johns -at- KCPBLDG05 -dot- BV -dot- COM), who
provided some interesting info on the way Doc-To-Help handles index tags.
I have some questions for you (and for anyone else who uses Doc-To-Help):
It *sounds* handy, having the software automatically building an index
for all the words associated with specified targets, but ... how do you
prevent it from including index tags for passing references? For
example, there may be some meaningful index entries for "syntax" but, at
the same time, the word "syntax" may be insignificant in some parts of
the text. Can you edit and easily delete the unnecessary tags? And, if
so, do you still think it's worthwhile to generate automatic index tags?
Also, how do you handle index entries for concepts (when the exact words
may not be in the text)?
