Subject:Universal Editor? From:"William J. Hartzer" <William -dot- Hartzer -at- EMC2-TAO -dot- FISC -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 9 Jan 1995 19:17:00 EST
Does anyone out there in Techwr-l'er land have experience using a Universal
Editor? i.e., some type of doc. system that will allow you to do the
following:
* Allow you to compose a document using the Universal Editor and "spit it
out," if you will, in any type of format (i.e., WordPerfect, ASCII, Script,
SGML, GML, Mac Write, etc.)
* Effectively deal with all Codepage 500 issues (i.e., deal with all
translation/language -- character issues)
* Be able to handle document version control/documentation effectively
* Be able to easily handle long technical documents
* Be able to capture screens
* Be able to add or create additional file formats as required (e.g., if
someone creates a new word processor called XYZ word processor, it will be
able to support it; or we can create the file format ourselvesto support it).
* Includes a spell checker
* Includes a grammar checker
* Includes an automatic translator (i.e, English to German, French, etc.)
These are a few of the features I'd like to find on a Universal Editor. I've
heard of a Universal Editor called XL18 (sp?), and am looking for additional
possibilities. I understand that they DO cost a lot of $...something like
$35,000, and a lot of companies nowadays can't afford it, but if you ARE using
something like this, could you let me know?
Thanks in advance,
