RE: Beverly park's message.
I was a systems manager of a large computer system in my previous life
(9 years). As system manager, you are responsible for keeping things humming
along smoothly. I started writing documentation 'in self-defense'.
I figured that if I wrote down all the tedious tasks, I could get somebody else
(a computer operator) to do them. That left me more time for the 'fun stuff' :-)
Mgmt liked what I wrote & asked me to give presentations at national
conferences. Of course, this required that I write 'executive summaries'.
One presentation led to a request from a journal for an article. I did it.
When I decided to do something different, luck helped out... There was a job
as a Learning Products Engineer (tech writer + usability + graphical artist..)
in the company whose products I had used. Since I had 'semi-established'
credentials as a tech writer, I got the job. That's where I'm at now & I love
it!
Good luck,
Regina
