Folks, you're getting Douglas Adams all screwed up!
42 is NOT the meaning of life, etc. It's the "answer to the ultimate question of
life, the universe, and everything." And the computer which came up with that
answer *wasn't* the earth. It was Deep Thought. After it gave it's answer, it
then designed a new computer which would be able to come up with the ultimate
question to which 42 was the answer. It's *that* computer which was the earth,
and it was demolished (to make room for an interstellar bypass) minutes before
it was to produce the question the aliens were waiting for.
BTW, for those interested, the ultimate question of life, the universe, and
everything is "What do you get when you multiply 6 by 9?"
