Ron, I agree that formal tests are overkill, but let me ask you:
How do I know that *you* wrote those writing samples? Maybe you just had an
excellent editor...
We all know that some people (gasp!) lie on resumes. Could this also be
true of writing samples? How would *you* check that someone can write well?
