Actually, just to set the record straight, Edison was promition Direct
Current (DC). The AC came from Westinghouse. The individual responsible
for 60 Hz was Nikola Tesla who figured that for the systems being used
and for effecient distribution 59.something Hz was the best. It got
rounded to 60Hz to make life easier on us.
You should also investigate other monitors to aviod 60Hz flicker: some
with a slower phospher should flicker less. In the days of monochrome
monitors, manufacturers listed the phosphor types. The faster ones are
used now to make video look nicer...
