I am looking for opinions on where a technical writer or
writing department best fits into an organization.
** After years and years as a writer in various organizational configurations,
my conclusion is that efficiency depends on the organization's personality
and on its leadership much more than on its formal structure.
If as a writer you want a career path, though, pick up a copy of Machiavelli
and get yourself ensconced under Marketing.
