The "Revisions" function of Word 6 should be able to handle what you want to do.
The menu path for the function is Tools>Revisions. With this function you can
set the revision marking function on before giving the files to the engineers,
but leave the functions that show and the revisions off. Then, when you receive
the revised files you can turn on the "show" function and see the changes.
There is also a way to have different change version appear in different colors,
and there is also supposed to be function that will allow you to accept or
reject each change. Being only an occasional Word user, I have tried neither.
