I attended a FUN meeting at Frame HQ last night to see
a demo of Frame 5. Many of you have wondered about the new
features, so I have listed my notes.
FCS for Frame 5 = Last part of June
FCS for FrameMaker+SGML = November
Upgrade $ for PC & Mac = $225
HTML conversion uses custom version of Quadralay.
Does not contain all features of V. 2.
Keeps all hypertext links. Supports GIFF. You map your
doc tags to HTML tags. Looks easy to use.
Access bar added for UNIX users like on Mac & PC. (Hurray!)
Text wraps around shape of graphic object. (Finally!)
Can anchor graphic to text.
CBT interactive training - 8 modules.
Straddle columns.
Import text by reference. Changes in source doc are automatically
changed in destination doc. Frame text imports directly.
PS files generated to make Acrobat PDF 2.0 files.
Supports bookmarks, etc.
Windows version is full 32-bit application.
Support for Apple Events.
Join command to edit & combine objects.
Can add any name to Alert box.
FrameReader is new viewing product. Free for local
groups. Cheap for others. Doesn't have all features
of FrameViewer (still available).
Popup list has pull right buttons.
New hypertext commands:
gotolinkfitwin: & previouslinkfitwin
Does a fit window to page for odd-sized docs.
Export to RTF for Windows help system.
Other new features were not discussed.
Work is underway to completely redesign the Frame user
interface. Maybe version 6?
Phone support will not be free unless you have a
service contract. Fax & e-mail still free.
