Position: Technical Writer
Description: Join team of five writers to develop printed or online software
documentation by planning projects; writing, editing, and formatting text; and
creating graphics.
Responsibilities include:
*Attending project team meetings.
*Creating and updating documentation plans.
*Following the documentation department's written style guide and procedural
standards.
*Writing and updating technical and end-user manuals and other printed
documentation.
*Producing graphics using computer drawing packages and screen capture.
*Formatting and laying out text and graphics.
*Indexing manuals.
*Writing and developing online help.
*Serving as a support writer for some projects by editing the work of the
primary
writer or providing other assistance as needed.
*Occasionally editing and proofreading online release notes, marketing
materials, training materials, and business correspondence.
Software: We currently use Word for Windows, Ventura Publisher, Hijaak,
Visio, andWindows Help Compiler. We will be moving to FrameMaker within
the next two months.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate should:
*Have 2-5 years experience in writing computer software documentation
(experience with end-user accounting application manuals a plus).
*Possess excellent writing skills.
*Pay careful attention to detail.
*Communicate effectively verbally as well as on paper.
*Work well on a team and independently.
*Be organized and manage and prioritize multiple projects.
*Take constructive criticism and offer it when appropriate.
About DISC: DISC was founded in 1976 and has 65 employees. Its software
product line includes a business programming language (DBL, ANS DIBOL
compiler), windowing tools, a data dictionary, report writer, and configuration
management system.
