P.S. Is there a name for the kind of page I describe? If so, I'd like
to
know it.

It sounds as if you got a copy of the manual that went through the press
during the pre-run testing or during a paper change as one roll of paper
ended and another was added in. Having worked in the newspaper biz for
10 years, I know that occasionally one of those kinds of pages would slip
through in the process of getting the paper out. I can understand it in
the rush to print a paper, especially when it happens on large dailies
with tight deadlines and large press runs. But I find it very
disconcerting that such a thing should happen when producing
documentation for a product. Sounds like they either weren't careful or
were rushing at the end.
