The fast save option just recently created some real problems for a student
here. (I work the Technical Assistance Line as well as write
documentation) I received a call on Friday from an unfortunate individual
who received a fast save/memory error message while saving a 50 page
document. Now he cannot access the file through WFW (he gets a General
Protection message). Unless he can access the file with a different word
processor, I think that file is history. (he did not have a recent
back-up) Even before hearing the exact error message, I had him turn fast
save OFF (I believe it is on by default?).
I had a less serious problem with fast save about a month ago (on my Mac).
Files I had saved under System 7.1 (Word 5.1a) were printing extraneous
information when printed from a Mac running System 6.0.8 (Word 4.0). I
tried several things to no avail. When I turned off fast save the problem
disappeared.
