*Boring* them??? Any supervisor worth its (my temporary reaction to the
genderless pronoun debate) paycheck will *insist* on some demonstration of
competence before it hires someone. While it may be bored with irrelevant
trivia, carefully selected samples from projects that dealt with similar
subjects (or had similar deliverables) are *very* relevant.
Bottom line: do your homework.
Find out what the job entails --- what subjects you will be writing about,
what types of documents you will be producing, what type of editing or
design skills you will need to demonstrate. Then carefully select
*samples* of each document type and each professional skill. Put an
introduction or cover letter with this short, targeted portfolio that
explains why you selected those particular samples. And make it clear that
you have other samples available, if needed.
