First of all, no one should fault you for using something that works. As for
the problem you had closing your file, I'd check out the hard drive for lost
clusters by running CHKDSK /F. It might be that Write is trying to write to
disk and not able to find unallocated space on its first try. Unfortunately,
Windows -- or DOS for that matter -- was not designed for fault-tolerance, so
anytime you hit a small pothole it can totally screwup everything you're
trying to accomplish.
