In a post last week (about the Phonetic Alphabet) I put American animals
in a Russian satellite ]:<)

Able and Baler were the first American animals in space (both were monkeys).
The dog was Lakia. It was Sputnik II. The dog died (but the monekys survived).

Thanks to Rick Lippincott, whose memory is still intact.

P.S. Hope my misinformation (how's that for a PC term for "screwing up the
facts") didn't cause any damage.
