I've discovered two sources of information that may be helpful to those
producing web pages.
The mailing list for web designing is web-design -at- angel -dot- net -dot- Subscription
requests should be sent to web-design-request. The following is from the
message I received when I subscribed.
web-design -at- angel -dot- net is an unmoderated, open mailing list devoted
to the effective design of World Wide Web sites.
By "design" I mean things like:
- The structure and organization of the web pages
- Proper use of graphics, sound and video.
- Working within the constraints of the media
- Navigation (making sure the user doesn't get "lost")
- Presentation issues
- Interactivity issues (or the lack thereof)
- Semantic models (i.e. brocure vs theatre vs hypertext vs ...)
- Pros and cons of proposed design guidelines.
The second source is a web site which lists designers and provides their
location and level of expertise. This page states that the goal is to have
mentors assisting apprentices.
