Instead of using a possesive adjective (their, incorrect grammar; his or her,
correct grammar but unweildy), how about using an article:
To select a user, highlight the name...
or some variant.
Other strategies: pick a possesive adjective and stick with it (either his or
her), use either adjective at random, make everything plural, change person,
change voice, or just be incorrect (and figure the reader won't notice).
Ah, gender! Can't live with it, can't live without it! ;-)
