Having tangled with Arlen before, it's my opinion that he tends to latch
onto
what he _thinks_ you might be saying and then to create an elaborate
argument
against it--couched in fine-sounding, pseudo-syllogistic terms and
introducing
into the discussion all sorts of tangential ideas that had never occurred
to
you, much less appeared in your original statement. In other words, he uses
obfuscation and bluster--rather than cogent argument--to make his points.
Rather irritating, to say the least.
