I need a definition for VT100, and it would also be helpful if I had some
kind of origin of the term. Any help much appreciated!

I thought that "A standard type of computer terminal" was not really very
explanatory.

Digital Equipment Corp. sold this type of terminal in the
1970-80's. It was popular, cheap, and dumb. The terminal
became a standard, much like Epson printers defined printer
protocol.

As far as definition of the term, I assume it might stand for
Video Terminal 100. Since VT100 is a marketing name,
there is really no significance to it.

It used ASCII codes for characters and controls.
