Subject:Pagemaker Make Booklet From:Diana Ezell <ezelld -at- APPLE -dot- COM> Date:Thu, 3 Aug 1995 15:03:39 -0600
Hi Raymond (and the rest of the list),
I have PageMaker 5.0 now, but I seem to remember that the feature I'm about
to mention is in 4.0 as well (if you have done a full install). I made one
of these booklets about a year ago and it worked great. I was so impressed.
I guess the Aldus (now Adobe) folks figured this thing out FOR us.
Sometimes software programmers do great things.
1) Pull down the File menu
2) Choose Page setup.
3) In the dialog box that will appear, choose Letter sized paper.
4) In the same dialog box click the radio button for the Wide orientation
(that's what it says in the PM Page setup dialog box) otherwise known to
the rest of the world as Landscape.
5) Enter your text and graphics into the pages in normal order of
appearance (reading) sequence: That is 1 and 2 on the first page, 3 and 4
on the second, etc.
6) (Now for the MAGIC part) Pull down the Utilities Menu, select Aldus
Additions, select the Build Booklet command. (Some spiffy stuff should
happen here, give it some time...)
** Voila! you have a booklet. All the page numbering and page sorting is
done for you. Page 1 will be opposite, page whatever, etc. Now all you have
to do is print and staple (a trick in and of itself) your booklets. I did
one of these and it turned out great. **
Good Luck,
Diana Ezell

course, you could always call Aldus for help..... yeah, right!....

Hi: I'm not sure if what I want to do can even be done in pagemaker 4.0 but
here goes: I want to set up a publication (small booklet) using 8.5 x 11
landscape folded in half. I can't find instructions in my manual pertaining
to what I need. I would like to take advantage of auto page numbering and
text flow, TOC and index generation but as you can understand, if I do it
unconventionally (like 1 page at a time) it will be a nightmare with the
loss of all features. I have been asked to do it in this format: the sheets
are folded in half and the halves have two columns. The folded sheets would
then fit into each other and be stapled in the crease. I am looking at
having chapters, a TOC, an index, graphics, etc... I hope this can be less
painful than I am starting to anticipate. I cannot afford big, new software
packages. (Hence the title: student) Any ideas greatly appreciated,
thanks...

Hi Raymond, If I've understood you right - I hope this may help.
There's probably a few ways to go ie:
(8.5 x 11 (portrait) sounds very familiar) try this: Under page setup it
might be A5 - and it's all done for you. Failing that, Under page set up
type in your exact sizes ie 8.5 x 5.5, choose facing pages, and give it a
go. (You might have to choose landscape under printer setup to get two
pages to print on the one piece of paper).
When the new document is open, under the format menu select columns - and
go biserk.
