C++, C are the top ones out this way. A good test to be sure:
- Buy the Sunday edition of all mjor national newspapers:
Washington Post, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Miami Herald, LA TImes,
New York TImes, and maybe something from San Francisco.
- Take a highlighter or pen and circle all the programming
languages in the want ads.
- On a paper-by-paper basis, get statistics on what are the most
popular, in-demand programming languages
- What are the most popular programming languages nationally?

One other piece of advice: your friend should look through the
employment classified ads in thenewspapers iin the areas of the country
in which he wants to work. There he can see what skills are currently
in demand. He or she should especially pay attention to the ads placed
by contracting and consulting agencies. They are usually at the cutting
edge of the techno-market.
