I would recommend Ada and C++ for starters. Also Unix. Even though it's not a
language, it's as complicated as one.

Here's one method to determine the most wanted programming language.
Start collecting Sunday editions of the major newspapers from major
U.S. cities. Emphasize those with known high-tech centers. (I'd
suggest the Boston Globe, for one.)
Start reading the help wanted ads, and see what languages and systems
are mentioned most often in the ads.
I used this technique a couple of years ago to figure out the local
DTP of choice. (It was FrameMaker.)
