This list would have received more appropriate postings if the students
had been asked to post IF they had a legitimate question rather than
(excuse the cliche) "posting for posting's sake." The postings that
bothered? annoyed? disgusted? most list members were probably a result
of forced posting.
You can debrief newcomers to the Internet about "netiquette" until you
turn blue in the face...like anything else in life, some will listen and
some will disregard everything you say. Postings from the students were
a mixture of both these responses. I hope those students who listened
considered the experience helpful and plan to return to this source.
Also, I am in grad school and still a student. I recall saying and doing
things 5 years ago that seem inappropriate in retrospect. I am not
attempting to downgrade the painful experience many on this list have
had with this issue, but perhaps it didn't affect me quite so negatively
because I CAN STILL REMEMBER.
I would hope in the future that other students are introduced to the net
and are encouraged to post if they WANT to with a responsible inquiry.
And I would hope that this thread ends soon.
