Hi!
A while back I asked if anyone had been doing any online help authoring in
FrameMaker, and found that not many people had done this. I was
investigating this option as a way to deliver online help for both unix and
windows. Many of you replied that you would be interested in knowing what
I have found out.
Here is what I have discovered:
1) I am using FrameMaker to develop my online help files, but I am not
using the hypertext tools within Frame.
2) I have been using HyperHelp, which has a set of markers it uses to
generate online help.
3) I use the HyperHelp MIF compiler to generate the unix help, then
HyperHelp Bridge to generate a windows .rtf file.
It works great and is very easy! I haven't compiled a very complex file,
but I am extremely pleased with the HyperHelp product working with Frame.
If you are at all thinking about using FrameMaker to develop online help,
use HyperHelp and forget Frame's hypertext tools. It is very easy and does
a great job.
Please email me if you want more details.
