Mechanics and electronics are not going away. And especially if you can cross
the borders between both (and perhaps even add some understanding of software
issues) you should easily find jobs. OK, most rush into the software field and
even while this field grows moch faster, there will be demand in your field.

If you have an employer that might not be a real issue. But I simply refuse
most work in mechanics because of liability problems. An appropriate
insurance simply is prohibitively expensive over here.
