Subject:Re: Help: "Increment" as verb From:Al Rubottom <aer -at- PCSI -dot- CIRRUS -dot- COM> Date:Wed, 20 Dec 1995 14:22:00 PST
Yup, it ain't a verb, officially. BUT, like so many
such words these days, esp. in technogarblebabble,
it does get used a lot as a verb and *seems* to be
clearly understood. Soooo, unless you're gonna
insist on using "increases incrementally" or the
equivalent, you may as well give up & join 'em, eh?
There are so many cases like this that one ultimately
becomes the ad hoc arbiter of taste [since it's not so
much a matter of deciding "what's right"], and thus you
become the point man/woman in each case...
[or perhaps the nunciator of the nuncio, the dictator
of the obiter dictum, the defecator of the de facto...]
