TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
In May, 1995, STC Austin, thanks to an STC grant, offered a
one-week faculty internship in partnership with four Austin-Area
companies and Austin Community College. This activity placed Technical
Communication faculty members from STC Region 5 in publications
department positions for a week. Internships like this one provide many
possibilities for communication and cooperation between Technical
Communication professionals in industry and those in academia. Such
relationships strengthen and shape the nature of education for those who
enter the field.
One of the goals of this pilot project was to
provide a model for similar academe-industry internship programs. If you are
interested in receiving a booklet describing STC Austin's faculty
internship, please email Debbie Rosenquist, Academe-Industry Committee
