I came in late to this thread, but I've got a question. First off, I
agree that quoting material from a posting is the same as quoting
material from anyplace else. You at least admit that the thought isn't
yours to start with. Here's the problem.
You've got some text you'd like to quote from that looks like this:

Wanderer didn't write the whole mess, but there's no
way to tell who wrote the rest of it--and what part Wanderer wrote. So
how do you cite it?
