Frankly, I think that a department that does documentation and training
should be called the "Documentation and Training Department." It's
clear, it's simple, and it's product- and customer-centric. Calling
yourself the "Technical Communication Department" is both vaguer and
more pompous.
In this era of downsizing you always want to be a
"Nuts and Bolts" department, not a "Helical Fastener" department.
The people wielding the knife don't plunge it into areas that they
have a gut feel for.
