On Acorn computer systems (RISC computers used in English schools) the
three mouse buttons have the names:
Select, Menu, Adjust
'Select' not surprisingly selects objects or choices from menus
'Menu' displays menus.
'Adjust' offers alternative actions, roughly equivalent to option-click on
the Mac or Alt-click on Windows.
so that I'd write instructions such as:
'Click Select on the Print icon'
'Click Menu and choose Print'.
'Click Select to reply to the sender, or click Adjust to reply to all
recipients.'
If people reconfigure the buttons to be the other way round, the names are
the same because they are functional names not positions.
While having three mouse buttons still seems a lot to someone who started
out as a Mac user, the distinctive names are a real help when documenting
these systems.
