Subject:CHAT: "wheat from the chaff." From:DAVID IBBETSON <ibbetson -at- IDIRECT -dot- COM> Date:Fri, 10 May 1996 13:53:32 -0400
I thought "separating the wheat from the chaff" was proverbial. I no longer
have the Oxford Dict. of Proverbs. The ODQ (4th edition) only traces it back
to Elbert Hubbard who wrote:
"Editor: a person employed by a newspaper, whose business it is to separate
the wheat from the chaff, and to see that the chaff is printed." -- _The
Roycroft Dictionary_ (1914) p. 46
