Thanks to Averil Strauss and Wayne Hausmann for being the first to point me
to GhostScript. It comes with just the filter we needed!
The files are available at ftp.cs.wisc.edu/ghost/aladdin. You need
gs353ini.zip, gs353dos.zip, gs353fn1.zip and gs353fn2.zip to run the the DOS
version.
