In response to the oh-so-clever David (The Unbiased) Blyth ;-) ...
So ... you're on to me, eh? Yeah ... I do search TECHWR-L digests for any
references to "index" ... and, of course, I do have some thoughts on indexing
online documents. BTW, some of those thoughts appear in the January issue of
STC Intercom magazine, and many other thoughts will be in a book I'm
co-authoring this year with two other professional indexers.
I must admit ... I've been passing myself coming & going for so long that I
recently woke up when my cat jumped on me in the wee hours and, in my
half-awake/half asleep stupor, I reached for the phone to call the Front Desk to
report there was a cat in my room! Of course, that's about the time I woke up
enough to realize that I was in *my* bed and the cat was my sweet Madame
Pooskavich. But I digress ... I must also admit that I haven't read the STC
article you referred to on indexing Electronic documents. Where was that
article? I promise to find it, read it, and get back to you when I'm not quite
so busy (trying to meet two deadlines within the next few days and training my
Summer Intern, who is already working out even better than I'd hoped she would).
In the meantime, you might want to look at the ASI (American Society of
Indexers) home page:
Also, I just learned that the Australian Society of Indexers has an article on
their home page about indexing in the electronic age. You can find the AusSI
home page at:
http:/www.zeta.org.au/~aussi
and, more specifically, you can find Glenda Browne's paper at:
Happy indexing .... Lori
