I believe your problems lie in number 4, resizing, in your previous
message. Resizing bitmaps almost never works, because to resize the
software has to drop or stretch pixels, and neither works very well.
WexTech makes a cheap (about $30 I think) program that I have forgotten
the name of right now. Has "Snap" in it I think. Which works pretty
well. It was designed for use with online help.
Try using partial screen shots, when you can, so that you don't have to
resize.
On one of our projects we never resolved this issue--we just dropped the
screen shots as the document ended up totally online with Acrobat. When
Acrobat resized the bitmaps they were a mess!
One format you might investigate is the new PNG format (substitute for
GIF). I don't know whether it will help at all--and I don't think any
browsers support it yet!
